Website Design Process

Building a website requires that you examine your goals and develop an outline before you start.  Much like building a house, you first need to lay down the foundation, dividing the floor space into rooms and then decide what role each area will play in the final product.

A Website is ALWAYS a work in progress because for it to remain current and reflective or your business, you will need to keep it updated and timely with the most current content.

Steps in the Design Process:

  1. Determine the goals of the website.  What are you trying to say to the web visitor?  Consider how you will present that message.

  2. Build an outline that breaks down the different sections of the website, and includes the various sub-pages under each main heading.

Typical Pages that you will most likely want to include will be a HOME page, an ABOUT US page, a CONTACT page and then the various pages that display your product or service in enough details to present your message.

Having an outline that details the number of pages that you will want, allows us to lay the foundation and templates for the website.  We need you to consider how each page should interact with the rest of the pages.

  3. Choose a design concept and tell your webmaster what you like.  Often this is as simple, or as complicated as finding something on the internet that you like as an example.  Our goal is to get a visual concept of several sites that you like as opposed to trying to develop something and then discover that you don't like the format.  If you are able to provide examples of visual concepts that you like, we can use this input as a starting point.

  4. Choose your color schemes, font type and size, and tell us about the graphics that you have in mind to use.

  5. We will offer you a quote at this stage.  After you have determined the number of pages you will have, the style and layout of the website that you like and provided us with your basic concept of what you would like, we are now in a position to offer you a quote for the work.

  6. Begin to work on word content for each of your pages.  What will you say?  While your webmaster can assist you with text layout, only you know your business.  You know what you want to say.  At this stage, you should be looking at the content for each page.

  7. Choose keywords that describe the work or product that you provide your clients.  As you write your content, decide which words stand out as single word or short phrases that describe what you do.

  8. Decide on a domain name.  We can help you determine if a domain name is available, but you should review your business model and your keywords to develop a name that best calls attention to you.

  9. Choose a web host.  We work with MIDPHASE and highly recommend them, but your choice on where you place your website is your decision.  Choosing a webhost now, and purchasing space and the domain name allows us to put up an under construction page as soon as possible.

  10. Placement of the Under construction page is critical to getting you listed early in the search engines.  This allows us to present the keywords and a short description of your company, along with a under construction graphic that says a website is coming.  We believe it important to do that as soon as possible after you register the domain name because the spiders are going to come to your site shortly after you register it and we need to have something there.

  11. Now, we're ready to start the actual building of the site. We will build it in a temporary location on our server so that the public doesn't see it until we're ready.  You will be provided with a login to see the site being constructed and you will be able to give feedback during the process.

  12. Keep in mind, that before the final product, we will most likely go through several drafts and not all the features will work immediately, so as you review work in progress, always keep in mind that it is a work in progress.

Progress billings will be made that are due upon receipt during our website construction.
